The results of BayGo – a pilot program providing free transit around the city for those aged 12 to 17 – are in.
From June 1 to Sept. 7, BayGo users took a total of 11,275 rides on City buses, averaging approximately 1,000 rides per week. Daily use totalled up to 249 rides on weekdays and 158 rides on weekends.
A total of 988 BayGo passes were distributed over the summer.
Youth aged 15 accounted for the largest share of passes at 23 per cent, followed by 16-year-olds at 21 per cent and 14-year-olds at 17.5 per cent. Youth ages 12, 13 and 17 accounted for 9.7, 13.5 and 15 per cent, respectively.

BayGo was launched as a summer pilot to help reduce transportation barriers for young people and make it easier for them to get to recreation, jobs, programs, services and social activities across the city.
The program was delivered by the City of North Bay in partnership with Planet Youth Nipissing and supported by Canadore College Research Centre.

The City is collecting feedback through surveys of BayGo participants and their parents or guardians. Ridership data and survey feedback will help assess the pilot and inform future planning around youth mobility and transit services.
Surveys are open until Sept. 30, 2026.
