Heavy Equipment Operator – Roads (Posting ID 25E-38)

Applications are invited for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator within the City of North Bay’s Infrastructure and Operations Roads Division. Under the direction of the Roads and Traffic Supervisor, operates Heavy Equipment to complete all culvert, ditching, drainage, road building, road maintenance and winter control maintenance. Performs the safe and efficient operation of wheeled or tracked excavators, mini excavators, grader, utility loader with various attachments, dozer or loader/backhoe with bucket, plow and hydraulic breaker when required to excavate, break frost/rock, hoist, load, compact, level and spread earth, gravel or other materials.  Heavy equipment operators are also required to perform minor equipment maintenance and adjustments.  Operators are responsible to read and understand utility locates and relevant sections of the OH&S Act as well as the Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards. Direct personnel to ensure their compliance and safety during excavations. 

Qualifications:

  • Must have Grade 12 Education or equivalent
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience in the operation of an excavator, utility loader, grader, dozer, backhoe and other various heavy equipment required in the road building and road reconstruction field
  • Must be able to follow directions explicitly
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement
  • Must have good work, driver and operator record

Hours of Work: 

0730hrs to 1600hrs - Monday to Friday; subject to Winter Control Letter of Understanding

Rate of Pay:   

$32.08 per hour
