Parks Supervisor -  Job Posting ID 24E-31

Reporting to the Manager of Parks, the Parks Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of day-to-day operations of the Parks Department including supervision and direction of work to Parks Staff. The Supervisor ensures the City Parks amenities, infrastructure and capital projects (including parks, trails, sports fields, ball diamonds and other Parks amenities and infrastructure) are maintained in accordance with departmental standards and ensures compliance with all legislated requirements within approved capital and operating budgets.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supervision of Parks staff and maintenance activities and capital budget projects including but not limited to horticulture, arboriculture, turf, grounds, buildings, sports fields, ball diamonds, playgrounds, roads, trails, pathways, beaches, landscape construction, summer and winter maintenance of downtown city core and outdoor rinks.
  • Assist with monitoring and evaluating Parks operations and capital project programs to determine productivity, quality and standards meet objectives.
  • Collaborating with staff from other city departments and from other organizations to schedule work and coordinate the work of contractors
  • Perform regular inspections of horticulture, turf, arboriculture), buildings, sports fields, pathways, parking lots, roads, trails, beaches and lake accesses etc.
  • Using computer technology and applications, prepare reports for Manager and maintain records as required (i.e. safety, training records, playground inspections, sports field inspections, trail inspection
  • Ensure corporate safety policies and safety procedures are reviewed by the workforce on a regular basis through supervision, safety talks and job planning exercises.

Qualifications: 

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Landscape, Horticulture or related discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with landscape construction
  • 3 years in Parks management preferably in a union environment
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills with a cooperative team approach
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Parks operations and capital project programs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations applying to Parks operations
  • Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of current computer applications (Microsoft Office)
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license with satisfactory driver's abstract
  • Demonstrated ability to give direction and prioritize tasks using independent judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Effective conflict resolutions skills
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of mechanical equipment will be considered an asset. 

Hours of Work: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (40 hours/week)

Environment: Non-Union

The annual salary range for this non-union position is $72,652 - $90,806. The City of North Bay is an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.
