Arena Supervisor

The Corporation of the City of North Bay is accepting applications for the position of Arena Supervisor.  Reporting to the Manager of Sports and Events, the Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective maintenance and day to day operations of City of North Bay arena facilities while ensuring compliance to applicable legislation and corporate policies.  The arenas host a variety for sporting events and activities throughout the year.

The Supervisor will monitor, plan, and provide leadership while effectively collaborating and communicating with other facilities and event resources to facilitate the successful delivery of daily programming and special events.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Staff supervision, coordination of work and scheduling full-time, part-time and casual arena staff for all City of North Bay Arena Facilities
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets for operating & capital projects and work within these parameters
  • Assist with monitoring and evaluating arena operations and capital projects to determine that productivity, quality and standards meet objectives
  • Ensure that the ice plants, heating and ventilation systems (boiler and rooftop units), security systems, dehumidifiers, and other tools and equipment are maintained in top working order and are current with health & safety standards, legislation and regulatory bodies
  • Co-ordinate and supervise all sub-trades and events staff to work within the health & safety standards set forth by the City of North Bay & regulatory bodies
  • Using computer technology and applications, prepare reports for Manager and maintain records as required (i.e. safety, training records, inspections and reports)
  • Ensure corporate safety policies and safety procedures are reviewed by the workforce on a regular basis through supervision, safety talks and job planning exercises.
  • In collaboration with the Manager, Sports and Events, participate in work plan development, budgeting, capital plan development and implementation, as well as people development.

Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Diploma in a relevant technical field with a minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience in a related field or equivalent acceptable experience. Experience within a union environment will be considered an asset.
  • Successful completion of the Ontario Recreation Facility Association (ORFA) Legal Awareness II and Safe Arena Refrigeration Plant Operator courses
  • Hold a valid ORFA CIT designation
  • Demonstrated ability in the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and life safety and building systems
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to identify and correct unsafe conditions under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all regulations applying to the work activity
  • Excellent leadership, planning, organizational, interpersonal, communication, time management and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated supervisory, leadership and team-building skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to establish effective working relationships in a team environment and excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required

The following will be considered as assets:

  • Class “B” Refrigeration Certificate
  • Valid ORFA CARPT designation
  • Valid ORFA CBT designation 

Hours of Work: Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (40 hours/week) plus participation in an on-call rotation. There will be a requirement for flexibility as evening and weekend work may be required.

Environment: Non-Union

The annual salary range for this non-union position is $72,652 - $90,806. The City of North Bay is an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.
