Assistant Payroll Clerk (Permanent Full-Time)

Applications are invited for an Assistant Payroll Clerk within the Financial Services Department. Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Assistant provides assistance to the Payroll Clerk in the calculation, preparation and accounting of City payroll, contracted payrolls and benefits; and balancing of all payroll liabilities and payments to related agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Community College graduate in Accounting or equivalent acceptable experience.
  • Three (3) years’ previous accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in a computerized Payroll system.
  • Working knowledge of all payroll and related legislation (i.e. Employment Insurance Regulations, Ontario Labour Laws, Canada Pension Plans, MFIPPA, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in computerized software applications, Microsoft 365 including intermediate Excel and other related report writing applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong analytical and detail-oriented aptitude with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast-paced team environment satisfying tight deadlines and the ability to multi-task to proactively manage competing priorities.
  • High standards of ethics, professionalism and confidentiality to handle sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of standard office routine and procedures.
  • Experience with collective agreements and pension plans is considered an asset.
  • Working towards The Canadian Payroll Association certification - Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is considered an asset.

Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)

Hourly Rate: $28.88 per hour
