Supervisor, Linear Operations

The City of North Bay is inviting applications for the position of Supervisor, Linear Operations, reporting to the Operations Manager, Water Wastewater. The Supervisor of Linear Operations is responsible for supervision and overseeing the reliability and regulatory compliance of the water and sanitary linear operations. Complete construction projects by planning, organizing and controlling projects. Complete quality inspections and supervise sub-contractors and in-house unionised staff. Oversees work on water and wastewater facilities and linear assets in conjunction with other management as required. Ensure regulatory training is completed and coordinates planning, scheduling, inventory etc., to effectively support operational needs. The incumbent will be in a four person on-call rotation.

Qualifications:

  • Community College Diploma in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in water and wastewater linear construction and maintenance, or related experience and demonstrated minimum of one (1) year of direct or leadership supervisory experience.
  • Ministry of Environment (‘MOE’) Level I Certificates for Water Distribution, and Wastewater Collection with the requirement to work towards obtaining higher level certificates.
  • MOE certificates for Water and Wastewater Treatment would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excavation and Construction practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent written, report writing and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated and experience of knowledge of SCADA.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Standards, Acts and Regulations.
  • Relevant experience using computerized work management system.
  • Leadership competencies including operating strategically, leveraging diversity and differences, customer focused, ensuring accountability, managing complex problems, employing interactive and effective communication, fostering collaborative relationships, cultivating engagement to drive vision and purpose, managing and developing talent, establishing and maintaining trust, displaying self-awareness, and demonstrating resiliency.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office.
  • Contemporary staff supervisory skills including knowledge of collective agreement administration and interpretation, labour relations principles and practices, and relevant employment legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing in a unionized environment.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, work in confined spaces, maintenance holes, sewers, treatment tanks, wet-wells and near high voltage electrical equipment.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.

Duration:

Permanent Full-Time

 

Hours of work:

7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (40 hours/week)

 

Environment:

Non-Union

The annual salary range for this non-union position is $81,263 - $101,564. The City of North Bay is an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.
