North Bay City Council has approved a three-year lease and operating agreement with the Laurentian Ski Hill and Snowboarding Club, formalizing the Club’s operation of Laurentian Ski Hill and its snowboarding facilities.
The agreement follows the City’s purchase of approximately 50 hectares of land from the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority earlier this year, including the ski hill and related buildings and facilities. It maintains Laurentian Ski Hill as a community and regional recreational asset and ensures continued public access to the property and facilities.
The City will continue to own the land, buildings and municipal assets associated with the ski hill. The Club will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility, including programming and staffing.
The City will remain at arm’s length from the Club’s operations while maintaining oversight of City-owned assets.
Under the agreement, the Club will pay the City an annual lease fee of $32,500.
The City will provide the same financial support it has provided previously through the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, including an annual operating subsidy of $60,000, a capital subsidy of $65,000 and a $100,000 contingency subsidy.
The Club will provide information to the City each year on its finances and business plans.

This agreement helps ensure it remains available to the community and that residents and visitors can continue to enjoy the property and facilities.”
