North Bay, ON – Sept. 19, 2024 – Starting later this month, the City of North Bay is pleased to partner with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), The Village, and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit to offer free exercise classes for seniors 60+ in the West Ferris area.
The classes, held at West Ferris Arena three times a week, will also include time for social connections.
VON, funded by the Government of Ontario, provides free exercise classes for people over 55 or those aging with a disability. Currently, there are 16 classes offered in North Bay, with over 400 participants.
The West Ferris area has been underserved without a location for exercise. This new partnership will bring much-needed free and accessible classes to this high-priority area.
The Health Unit will continue to support and promote community exercise classes across the Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts, offering resources and information on healthy aging.
The Village at Canadore College, a Centre of Excellence in Healthy Aging, hosts 11 weekly classes attended by over 300 seniors. As a world-class health and wellness facility, The Village takes a ground-breaking approach to educating the next generation of health professionals.
By offering municipal space, the City of North Bay is promoting healthy aging, reducing isolation, and helping older adults stay active and independent. Classes will run from September to June, three times a week. To register, please contact VON.
