REDPATH TO NAME ONE OF THE FACILITY'S ICE PADS
North Bay, ON – North Bay’s new twin-pad community recreation centre is getting an official name.
The City of North Bay is pleased to announce that WFCU – Your Ontario Credit Union – has been selected as the successful bidder for naming rights for the new facility at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex on Lakeshore Drive. The proposed agreement with WFCU, along with a separate sponsorship agreement with Redpath Mining Inc. for one of the facility’s two regulation-sized ice pads, will be presented to North Bay City Council for consideration next week.
Subject to Council approval, the facility will be known as WFCU Place when it opens on Aug. 21, providing a new space for recreation, sport and community programs in North Bay.
“We appreciate WFCU’s support for this important facility and its investment in our community,” said Mayor Peter Chirico. “WFCU Place will be where residents and visitors can come together for recreation, sport and community events. We look forward to seeing people of all ages enjoy this new facility for years to come.”
Once complete, the modern, accessible centre will include two ice pads, a walking track, a large community room, and 14 dressing rooms to support year-round indoor and outdoor recreation.
“Since 1940, WFCU has invested in the communities we serve, one relationship at a time, one town at a time. Our credit union is only as strong as our communities, and WFCU Place is what that belief looks like in practice. WFCU Place will be where kids play their first game, where families spend their Saturdays, and where North Bay comes together. We are proud to be part of those moments,” said Eddie Francis, WFCU President & CEO.
“This is the beginning of our commitment to North Bay, not the extent of it, and we look forward to continuing to invest here and give back the way we have everywhere we have called home. We thank Mayor Chirico and Council for their vision in building this facility, and we look forward to Aug. 21,” added Francis.
“WFCU is proud to support a facility that will bring families, athletes, community groups and visitors together in North Bay," said Patti France, WFCU Chair of the Board. "With a banking centre in North Bay and a long history of investing in Ontario communities, we are excited to be part of this state-of-the-art community facility."
The naming rights and sponsorship opportunities were made available through a Request for Quotations process for the facility and select interior amenities.
Also subject to Council approval, one of the facility’s two regulation-sized ice pads will be named Redpath under a proposed five-year agreement with Redpath Mining Inc.
“Redpath is proud to support a facility that will provide opportunities for residents of all ages to participate in recreation, sport and community activities,” said George Flumerfelt, Redpath Mining Inc.’s CEO. “We are excited to be part of a project that will become a gathering place for North Bay for years to come.”
The City expects additional sponsorship opportunities to be announced in the future.
“We appreciate the confidence and support from local businesses that have chosen to be part of this facility,” said Mayor Chirico. “Their support is a great example of corporate citizenship and the important role businesses play in our community.”
