The Event Hosting Program provides financial support for events held in North Bay that benefit the community and help showcase the city. This may include cultural events, conferences, meetings, sporting events, tournaments and other special events.

Funding is available through two streams:

  • Community and non-profit events: for non-profit events organized by individuals, community organizations or other eligible groups. Examples may include cultural events, sporting events and tournaments, conferences, meetings and other community special events.

  • Private-sector events: for events organized by businesses or other private-sector applicants. Private-sector events are assessed based on factors such as community impact, opportunities to showcase North Bay, partnerships and the overall benefit of the event.

Funding may help with City fees and other eligible costs associated with planning and hosting an event.

What funding can support

Event Hosting funding may be used to help cover costs such as:

  • City facility rental fees

  • Permit and licensing fees

  • Road closure fees

  • By-law exemption fees

  • Event operating costs

  • Other eligible costs associated with planning and hosting the event

Funding is provided as a non-repayable sponsorship grant.

What we look for

Preference may be given to events that:

  • Create a significant benefit or impact for the North Bay community

  • Help showcase and promote North Bay

  • Are new or demonstrate significant growth or development

  • Involve partnerships with other organizations or community groups

The program is not intended to provide ongoing annual funding for the same event. Previously funded events may apply again when they have grown, changed significantly or are creating new community benefits.

Meeting the program criteria does not guarantee funding. Funding is limited and applications are evaluated based on the program criteria and available budget.

All events must take place within the City of North Bay.

Successful applicants must be up to date on any money owed to the City before funding can be issued.

How applications are evaluated

Applications from both funding streams are reviewed using an evaluation framework that considers the expected impact of the event on the community.

A Review Committee with representatives from Tourism North Bay, the City of North Bay's Community Development and Growth Department, and the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce reviews applications.

The evaluation helps determine whether an application will receive funding and the amount of financial support that may be provided.

Because program funding is limited, not every eligible event will receive funding.

If your application is approved

Successful applicants will receive confirmation outlining the funding amount and next steps.

As a condition of funding, recipients must:

  • Recognize the City of North Bay as an event sponsor and display the City logo in a way that reflects the level of sponsorship provided.

  • Submit a brief post-event report within 60 days of the event.

The post-event report must include:

  • A summary of the event and its community impact

  • Attendance

  • Media coverage, if applicable

  • A list of other event sponsors and the recognition they received

Note: All funds are subject to the approval of the 2027 municipal budget
