The Corporation of the City of North Bay is currently accepting applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator within the Public Works Department. Reporting to the Landfill Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of landfill heavy equipment. Duties include receiving, placing, compacting, and covering waste in accordance with municipal by-laws and Ministry of the Environment regulations. The operator will also assist the public by directing them to appropriate dumping areas and ensuring compliance with site procedures.

Qualifications:  

  • Minimum Grade 12 Education or equivalent acceptable experience.
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience in the operation of a utility loader, dozer, excavator, landfill trash compactor and other various heavy equipment required in the landfill maintenance field.
  • Must have minimum 1 year experience plowing and sanding.
  • Must possess a valid SWANA – Landfill Operations Basics Certification.
  • Must possess a valid Firearms License.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with the public; good communication skills.
  • Sufficient clerical ability to complete daily reports.
  • Must be able to follow directions explicitly.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement.
  • Must have a good work, driver and operator record.
  • Applicants will be subject to equipment operations assessment.
