The City of North Bay has awarded Ed Seguin & Sons Trucking & Paving Ltd. the contract for the reconstruction of McKeown Avenue between Gormanville Road and the A&W entrance into the McKeown Plaza. The project consists of widening McKeown Avenue to 4 lanes of traffic including the replacement of sewers, watermain, road base, curbs, sidewalks, asphalt paving, and streetlights.
Other improvements include a new multi-use pathway (MUP) on the south side of the road, new pedestrian lighting for the north sidewalk and a set of new traffic lights at the McNamara intersection providing a new controlled crossing for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The contractor will try to limit the extent of noise and other construction inconveniences during this project. In order to complete construction in a timely manner, night work and weekend work may be approved as required. The contractor will assist in garbage collection and temporary parking for residents if necessary. The contractor may also need to access your property at times to perform their work. There will be a city inspector available on-site for the duration of the contract to liaise with the public.
Trees, shrubs, gardens, fences, structures, etc. that are currently located on City property may be removed during construction. If you wish to preserve plantings or items located on City property, please move these items to your property prior to construction. The City of North Bay is not responsible for any replacements due to damage as a result of construction activities.
The contractor will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction for the duration of the project, however there will be instances that traffic will need to be detoured temporarily such as work at the McNamara Street and Cartier Street intersections.
The City and the contractor are committed to public safety. We urge all to drive with care through the construction zone. Parents are reminded to keep a close watch on children and to teach them about the hazards associated with an active construction zone. Do not hesitate to contact the city inspector or the site contractor if there is a public safety concern.
Municipal police, fire and emergency medical services are aware of the scope and duration of the works. The City and the contractor will monitor ongoing progress of construction to ensure that emergency responders are not hampered.
The contractor will tentatively start to mobilize and have construction materials delivered to the construction site the week of June 10th with construction works beginning as early as the week of June 17th. Construction is scheduled to be completed over a two-year period with completion of the works scheduled for October 2025. Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the project manager listed below. There will be a city inspector available on-site for the duration of the contract to liaise with the public.
