Fleet Technician (310T) (Permanent Part-Time)

Applications are invited for the position of Fleet Technician within the City of North Bay’s Infrastructure and Operations Division. Under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor or designate, you will carry out all the functions of a fully qualified Certified Truck and Coach Technician. You will maintain and complete manual and computerized records of repairs as required using our Fleet Management System. You will carry out preventive maintenance, diagnostic investigations, mandatory and statutory maintenance and repair while complying with current Provincial safety legislations.

Hours of Work:

Up to 24 hours flexible schedule per week which can include day, evening and weekend shifts.

Hourly Rate:

Our Total Compensation plan for 2025 includes rates that start at $39.09/hour up to $43.34/hour including shift premiums plus Union negotiated increases to base wage in each of the following years:

2027-3.5%

2028-3.5%

Benefits:

8% in lieu of benefits

Annual Tool Allowance value of up-to $820 Annual Safety Footwear Allowance value of $235

Annual Clothing Allowance value of $270 plus three (3) changes of coveralls weekly

Selection Criteria for Fleet Technician:

  • Grade 12 Education or equivalency
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class “310T” Truck and Coach License and 3-year apprenticeship program through Skilled Trades Ontario and 2 years working experience as a 310T.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of repair of small motors and two cycle
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced automotive electronics, computer control systems on Engine Management, fuel injection, computer control ignition, after treatment and Body Management
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Class D Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement; or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel transit buses, fire trucks, diesel trucks and Allison automatic transmission.
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive electronics, hydraulics and air
  • Must own a complete set of hand
  • Must be capable of troubleshooting and road-testing repairs to meet Ministry of Transportation safety and roadworthiness requirements.

  • Must have the ability to obtain the training and certifications for: Air Conditioning and Refrigerant Handling (Ozone Depletion Prevention Certified), Overhead Crane, Working from Heights, Wheel Installation Technician, Emergency First Aid, Various equipment specific training (i.e. EVT training)
  • Certificate of Qualification in Automotive (310S) is an asset; Ability in arc welding is an
