North Bay, ON – March, 31 2020 – Reconstruction of Cassells Street is set to resume April 6.
The City of North Bay continues to focus on the health and well-being of residents and the decision to move forward with this infrastructure project was done with careful consideration in light of the COVID-19 situation.
The provincial government has indicated that construction projects can continue during the recently announced shut-down of non-essential businesses and additional safety measures and best practices will be in place to ensure a safe work environment for contractors.
Kenalex will be providing training to their employees for dealing with COVID-19 that will include social distancing, cleanliness, disinfection, etc. All contact between property owners and Kenalex personnel will be minimized using paper handouts, phone calls, and posted notices to City’s website to provide construction updates.
The project includes sewers, watermain, road base, curbs, sidewalks, asphalt paving, Chippewa Creek Bridge and other ancillary work from King Street to the Provincial Hwy 11/17.
The construction work on Cassells Street will be completed in five phases. During Phases 1 to 3, Cassells Street will be closed to through traffic from April 6 to Sept. 30. All sections will have local access for existing residents and businesses. During various underground infrastructure installations the road may be fully closed.
This work is required to replace the City’s underground infrastructure and reconstruct the road is the second part of a two year capital works program. The project is tentatively slated for completion as of Nov. 15, 2020.
