Parking in North Bay's downtown

North Bay has a variety of parking options in its downtown and waterfront areas, divided into zones.

Hourly parking is available on-street and in most municipal lots. In these spots, payment is connected to your vehicle by your license plate and not to the parking space itself, which means your vehicle can move freely within the parking zone up to the time purchased or maximum time allowed.

Information on parking outside the downtown area

The City partners with HotSpot to streamline the paid parking process.

There are three ways to pay for short-term (hourly) parking:

  1. Use a Pay 'n Display machine or parking meter
    • Pay 'n Display machines accept Visa and MasterCard as well as quarters, loonies, and toonies
  2. Scan the QR code on parking signs (no app download required)
    • Pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit card
  3. Download and use the HotSpot app

Hourly rates for on-street parking and in lots vary between $1.00 and $1.50, although some areas allow for free time-limited parking once per day.

Municipal parking enforcement begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. in the Downtown Improvement Area (DIA) and in municipal lots.  It ends at 6 p.m. for all other metered on-street parking.

Parking is free on weekends and holidays year-round.

Free Parking

There are several free parking lots along North Bay's waterfront. Please be advised that these lots are not maintained in the winter.

There is also time-limited free parking available in select areas of downtown:

  • Free 15-minute parking is available in Lot Wyld 8 (at City Hall)
  • Free one-hour parking is available in the DIA boundary
  • Free two-hour parking is available in Lot Oak 2 and Lot McIntyre 4 (in the parking garage, levels 1 and 2)

Free parking sessions in these areas are available by entering your licence plate at Pay 'n Display machines and displaying the stub on your vehicle. Free parking sessions cannot be accessed through HotSpot or at coin-operated machines.

One free parking session is available per vehicle per day.

Accessible parking

Those with a valid accessible permit displayed correctly are allowed free parking for a maximum of two hours in all zones.

The authorized parking permit must be displayed from the inside rear-view mirror when parking in your designated lot. Vehicles not displaying a current monthly tag will be ticketed.

On-street parking rental program

Convenient monthly rentals are available for regular daytime parking hours (8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday) in designated on-street metered areas. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. On-street rental clients must abide by all traffic and parking by-laws.

Overnight parking

Free overnight parking is available year-round in Lot 4 (McIntyre parking garage) on levels 1 to 4 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.  No permit or receipt is required.

April 1 through October 31

In non-winter months, overnight parking is permitted in municipal lots between 4:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. as well as on weekends and holidays.

November 1 through March 31

Overnight winter parking is available in designated areas of Lot Oak 2 and Lot Wyld 13. Purchase a monthly permit for one of these areas or pay a $5.00 flat rate per night from Pay 'n Display machines.

Besides the exceptions above, overnight parking is prohibited in municipal lots between 12 a.m. (midnight) and 8 a.m.

In winter months, parking is prohibited in the Downtown Improvement Area from 3 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., on blocks containing cul-de-sacs and dead-end roads from 3 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and on all other streets from 3 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
