North Bay, ON – Nov. 25, 2025 – The City of North Bay will assume operation and maintenance of the Bruman Community Dog Park at Champlain Park at the end of Premier Road beginning Nov. 30, 2025.
The transition follows 10 successful years of operation by the North Bay and District Humane Society under a lease agreement with the City.
Established in 2015, the Bruman Community Dog Park was created by the Humane Society in response to community demand for a safe, designated space for dogs to run off-leash. The project was made possible through community partnerships and an estate donation, as well as support from Bruman Construction, which provided site preparation and grading at no cost.
“The Humane Society’s leadership and initiative were instrumental in creating North Bay’s first off-leash park,” said Mayor Peter Chirico. “For the past decade, the park has been a valued space for residents and their dogs to enjoy. We’re grateful to the Humane Society for their stewardship and commitment, and we’re pleased to carry that legacy forward.”
The North Bay and District Humane Society has decided to focus its efforts and resources on its core mission of animal care, sheltering, and welfare services, which continue to be in high demand across the region.
“When we opened the Bruman Community Dog Park in 2015, it filled an important community need,” said Liam Cullin, Executive Director of the Humane Society. “We’re proud to have played a role in establishing this wonderful space for local dog owners. As we refocus on our core programs, we’re confident the City will continue to ensure the park remains a welcoming, well-maintained spot for dogs and their people.”
The park, located at the end of Premier Road next to Champlain Park, will continue to operate as an off-leash facility with designated areas for large and small dogs. All existing rules and regulations regarding licensing, vaccination, and pet supervision will remain in effect.
