Centennial Call for Artists

The Centennial Marketing & Promotion Sub-Committee is seeking artists and designers to submit digitally created images, high quality photographs or scans of original artwork that represent North Bay’s history. All artwork must be created to fit a VERTICAL banner (34’’x90’’).

Must include historical North Bay elements such as;

• Aviation
• Rail
• Water
• Ringette
• Gateway Arch
• Etc.

The artist is responsible for the design only. Installation will be handled by the City of North Bay. All submissions will be juried using the Centennial Overpass Banner Project Artwork Evaluation Rubric.

To promote the city of North Bay’s 100th Anniversary and showcase its rich history through public artwork.

Artists should understand that the finished work will be installed onto mounted light posts which may require repair or replacement due to the elements. Therefore, the City of North Bay cannot guarantee the duration of the work’s display or be responsible for any damages or modifications of the artwork due to required maintenance and wear and tear. The artwork is intended to be up for the duration of 2025 (January 1st-December 31st, 2025). Artists should also be aware that public artwork can be a target for vandalism. The City of North Bay cannot guarantee that vandalized works will be repaired, restored, or replaced as this is dependent on available funding. Artists must accept this risk that their artwork may be removed if damage or vandalism occurs at the city’s discretion and following the intended duration of the artwork December 31st, 2025.

  • Artist, designers, and creative professionals with ties to North Bay and area
  • Must be unique and original work, new or existing artwork is eligible but must align with North Bay’s history (ideas noted in Project Description)
  • If you submitted artwork for the Traffic Box Initiative or Panel Art project, please submit a NEW design (duplicate designs will not be accepted)
  • Must not include promotion, branding or business logos
  • Must not include any vulgar or offensive words or explicit offensive imagery
  • Must consider ways of mitigating graffiti, such as reducing blank space
  • Must be able to produce high-res 300 DPI (dots per inch) digital document via scan, photograph, or digitally produce and place on a template if selected
  • Must be appropriate for a flat vertical surface (landscape artwork will not be considered)
  • Each artist can submit a maximum limit of (2) pieces of artwork

Proposals will be evaluated by the Centennial Marketing & Promotion Sub-Committee under but not limited to the following criteria:

  • Artistic Merit - artwork exhibits high quality artistic ability and execution within project scope.
  • Elements of Design - Elements within project scope are well thought out and the design is a good representation of North Bay’s history and will fit a vertical banner.
  • Creativity & Originality - artwork represents North Bay’s history and celebrates North Bay’s 100th anniversary within an original design.

Deadline for submissions: October 16, 2024, by 4:30pm
Successful applicants contacted to secure high-res digital image: October 28, 2024
Successful applicants announced: November 4, 2024
Installation begins: January, 2025
