Asset Management - Community Input

Help shape the City of North Bay’s Asset Management Plan

The City of North Bay is currently updating its Asset Management Plan (AMP) in line with Ontario Regulation 588/17: Asset Management Planning for Municipal Infrastructure. This plan is a key tool in guiding how we manage, maintain, and invest in the infrastructure that supports daily life in our community—both now and in the future.

As part of this update, we want to hear from you. Your input will help ensure that City assets — such as roads, water systems, parks, and public facilities — are managed in a way that reflects community priorities and expectations.

When we talk about “assets,” we mean all the physical things the City owns that help deliver services to the community. That includes the roads you drive on, the sidewalks you walk on, the pipes that bring clean water to your home and carry wastewater away, and the storm drains that help prevent flooding. It also includes our parks and trails, recreation and community facilities, public transit, even parking lots.

All of these things work together to support our quality of life in North Bay. They keep us safe, healthy, active, connected, and moving — and managing them properly helps protect the value of these public resources now and into the future.

Asset management is the process the City uses to take care of everything it owns and operates — the things that help keep North Bay running smoothly. It’s about making smart decisions when it comes to maintaining, fixing, and planning for the future of our infrastructure. This ensures that the services you count on today — like clean drinking water, safe roads, reliable transit, and accessible parks — are available and well-managed for years to come.

Levels of service are not about day-to-day operations like how often snow is cleared, the number of available staff, or garbage pickup schedules.

Instead, levels of service are assessed by what services the City provides to residents and whether the assets and infrastructure can reliably deliver those services.

The updated 2025 Asset Management Plan will define levels of service based on two key perspectives:

  • Community Level of Service – what residents expect and experience
  • Technical Level of Service – how assets are performing and meeting standards

Your feedback helps us align our infrastructure goals with the expectations and experiences of North Bay’s residents.

We’re focusing on eight key service areas that form the foundation of municipal life in North Bay:

These categories are also the basis for our public survey — your input in each area will directly shape the updated Asset Management Plan.
