North Bay, ON – May 26, 2026 –The City of North Bay is pleased to announce the official launch of BayGo, a pilot program providing free transit access for youth ages 12 to 17 this summer.
The launch was held today at the Downtown Waterfront multi-use courts and Kiwanis All-Wheel Park, highlighting the types of locations BayGo is designed to connect youth with across North Bay.
BayGo is a low-cost community safety and well-being initiative that helps remove transportation barriers for young people and supports positive choices. It makes it easier for youth to get to recreation, jobs, programs, services, and social opportunities. The program is delivered in partnership with Planet Youth and Canadore College.
“BayGo is about giving young people real access to their city,” said Mayor Peter Chirico. “When transportation isn’t a barrier, youth can meet up with friends, take part in programs, get to work, and build confidence using transit as part of everyday life in North Bay. The program also provides an opportunity for youth to learn and become more comfortable using the transit system independently.”
Beginning today, eligible youth can pick up a BayGo card by visiting the North Bay Transit Office, showing identification confirming their age, and having their photo taken at the terminal. The pass can be used from June 1 to Sept. 7, 2026.
Youth registering for BayGo will be invited to voluntarily provide an email address, and parents or guardians may also choose to participate by providing contact information for a follow-up survey at the end of the summer. The feedback will help the City better understand how youth are using transit and inform future planning for youth mobility and services.
“Supporting community safety and well-being means helping young people stay connected to positive activities, supports, and opportunities. When barriers like transportation are reduced, it becomes easier for youth to make healthy, positive choices in their daily lives,” said a representative from Planet Youth.
