Work to four-lane a section of McKeown Avenue, from Cartier Street to Gormanville Road, will begin early this summer.
The project will involve widening the road to accommodate four lanes of traffic, with two lanes in each direction. Additionally, a new multi-use path will be constructed on the south side of the road, extending from Gormanville Road, past Cartier Street to the intersection at A&W.
Other key highlights of the project include the construction of a new intersection at McNamara Street, complete with traffic lights to facilitate safe crossings for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as the replacement and addition of new streetlights, including pedestrian lighting for the sidewalk on the north side of the road. Additionally, all existing underground water and sewer services will be replaced, with the exception of a large concrete trunk storm. A storm sewer will also be installed beneath the multi-use path.
The road reconstruction and widening of McKeown Avenue funded in part by the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP): Rural and Northern Stream, the provincial and federal governments together will contribute up to approximately $4.2 million toward the project.

The City and the contractor are committed to public safety. We urge all to drive with care through the construction zone. Parents are reminded to keep a close watch on children and to teach them about the hazards associated with an active construction zone. Do not hesitate to contact the city inspector or the site contractor if there is a public safety concern.
Municipal police, fire and emergency medical services are aware of the scope and duration of the works. The City and the contractor will monitor ongoing progress of construction to ensure that emergency responders are not hampered.
The contractor will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction for the duration of the project, however there will be instances that traffic will need to be detoured temporarily such as work at the McNamara Street and Cartier Street intersections.
The contractor will assist in garbage collection and temporary parking for residents, if necessary. The contractor may also need to access your property at times to perform their work. There will be a city inspector available on-site for the duration of the contract to liaise with the public.
Trees, shrubs, gardens, fences, structures, etc. that are currently located on City property may be removed during construction. If you wish to preserve plantings or items located on City property, please move these items to your property prior to construction. The City of North Bay is not responsible for any replacements due to damage as a result of construction activities.
