The City of North Bay supports outdoor dining through patio licensing programs for businesses looking to expand their service areas. If you're interested in setting up a patio, please review the following guidelines and requirements.
An outdoor patio that encroaches on a sidewalk or boulevard (i.e. City of North Bay property) adjacent to a business, such as a restaurant or tavern, requires a Patio Licence from the City of North Bay. Patios located entirely on private property do not require a Patio Licence, provided they comply with requirements of the City's Zoning By-law. To confirm whether your patio meets zoning requirements, please contact us at zoning@northbay.ca.
The City of North Bay has adopted the Sidewalk Patio Policy, allowing businesses within the Downtown Improvement Area (DIA) to apply for non-exclusive use of publicly owned sidewalks and on-street parking spaces in front of their buildings for sidewalk patios.
